Lose-Lose

He is at a lose-lose, and that’s a pretty common
and constant state for him. She has a win-whatever
and she knows it and is like, whatever, and he knows
and she knows he knows and this is the normal way of things.

Both have an awareness–acute or no–
of what needs to be done. One party can’t take it;
he is too much in the way of fear, self-loathing,
the predictable stuff. And the other one, her:

it’s indifference mostly.
So when time comes for action neither will take part
and can you blame them? Maybe.
But youth is a stupid moment in life and young youth ever stupider.
